The Global Launch of WilAT During CILT International Convention - 2013
Launch of WiLAT SL Forum was held on 21st March 2013
Women in Logistics & Transport Sri Lanka Forum
Background
Logistics and transport as a
profession is gaining momentum and popularity globally with increasing
pressures in international trade and also due to intense competition. In this back drop the value that logistics &
transport personnel can create to the industry is enormous. It’s not surprising
that world’s largest fashion retailer Inditech’s flagship brand ‘Zara’ company
spokesperson calls the logistics department ‘the essence of the company’ which embodies two priorities for their
company, customer focus and speed. Developing professionalism in the industry
is vital to achieve a competitive advantage. Sri Lanka is aspiring to become a
logistics hub by 2020. Although the female population outnumbers the male
population in the country, female representation in the Logistics and Transport
industry is still very low, mainly due to lack of awareness of the career
opportunities available in different sectors of the industry. Improving gender
balance will help to bring in diverse views and ideas for value creation in the
sector. Women in Logistics and Transport
Forum will be formed under CILT SL to provide a platform for women engaged
in the industry to maximize their potential both professionally and personally.
